Kill Bill

Even if you haven’t watched this Quentin Tarantino classic, you should be familiar with the yellow jumpsuit that the leading character wears in the film. Kill Bill follows the story of an assassin who goes on a murderous rampage to seek revenge on her former lover and boss, Bill, who had previously tried to kill her and caused her to lose her child. Who doesn’t love a good revenge movie filled with blood and gore?

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

The third film in a trilogy of revenge-themed movies by acclaimed Korean director Park Chan-Wook, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is the story of Geum-ja, a soft-spoken and angelic-looking convict recently released from prison after serving a 13-year sentence for kidnapping and murdering a 5-year-old child. While in prison, she amassed an ardent following comprising her fellow inmates who help her in her quest to exact revenge on Mr Baek, the man she had trusted and lived with before he framed her for the heinous crime that landed her in prison exactly 13 years ago. When she manages to find him and hold him hostage in a classroom, she gets the parents of all the children that he had murdered to take their turns torturing him and he eventually dies a bloody and violent death.

What Lies Beneath

The quintessential movie for all horror buffs, What Lies Beneath stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford as a married couple with secrets. Michelle Pfeiffer is the wife who suspects that her husband (Ford) has been cheating on her; she is right in her suspicions but never did she imagine that he had actually murdered his mistress and dumped her body in the lake nearby. The vengeful ghost of the murdered mistress returns to the house where she was killed and attempts to inform the wife of her husband’s misdeeds, after which she tries to kill her. I guess we can say that this movie celebrates the death of two different types of love – marital love and forbidden love.

Fatal Attraction

No anti-romantic movie list is complete without this entry. A classic movie that every man, married or otherwise, definitely must watch, Fatal Attraction is a film that highlights the horrors of casual sex. When family man and high-flying lawyer Dan (Michael Douglas) meets publishing editor Alex (Glenn Close), the attraction is immediate and before long they embark on an illicit affair that soon spirals out of control when Alex wants more out of Dan. What follows are the acts of a desperate woman involving a boiled pet bunny, the attempted murder of Dan’s wife and the eventual death of Alex. Yikes! If this doesn’t chill married men everywhere to the bone, I don’t know what will.
